Flashback Friday: ‘Wasteland’

Elegant Angel's "Wasteland"

When director Graham Travis’ feature film Wasteland debuted in 2012, it was obvious that this was a different kind of adult movie. With the look and feel of an indie romance, it told the simple, raw story of two young women reunited for a single passionate night in Los Angeles, and audiences immediately connected with the coming-of-age adventure of Anna and Jacky.

Wasteland starred Lily Carter and Lily LaBeau, two relative newcomers at the time who went on to make an impact on the industry with their natural beauty, sensual performances, and stellar acting chops. Carter told AVN Magazine at the time, “I am so honored to be a part of such a beautiful work of art,” and LaBeau added, “As soon as I read the script I knew this movie was going to be something extremely special.”

While Wasteland focuses on Anna and Jacky’s love story, the film has much more than girl/girl scenes, including boy/girl and two orgies. The large cast features top male stars of the day like Manuel Ferrara and Xander Corvus, as well as performances from Sarah Shevon, Liza Del Sierra, Proxy Paige, Sparky Sin Claire, and Tiffany Doll.

Wasteland and its stars went home with an armload of trophies during that year’s awards season, including Best Actress wins for both Lily Carter and Lily LaBeau, and the AVN awards for Best Director: Feature for Travis and the coveted Movie Of The Year.

Simply put, it’s rare to find an adult film of this scope and sincerity these days. However, Wasteland has remained at the top of the Elegant Angel bestseller list, and 11 years later, audiences continue to discover the love at the heart of its story.
